The end. Theatre searches for new home
June 18, 2016
The end. Theatre will close its doors July 1 with the hopes of reopening in another location.
The “best live-music venue” in the Shoals will vacate 106 S. Pine Street in Florence because the building’s owner is selling it, and the end. owner Scott Long currently rents the space.
Long said he found another location in Florence with a $350,000 price tag that he would like to purchase.
“I need (a location) to replicate what makes the end. work, and that is the comfort level that feels safe or (like) home,” he said.
To purchase the new building, Long will begin fundraisers next week, which will start with online donations.
Before closing, the end. will host a performance of improvisational group Sustainable Differences July 1. The theatre is also hosting concerts as part of the closing, with the next show, “The Middle of the End of the end.,” tonight beginning at 8 p.m. The show features SCM Electrix, Rock Eupora and OLDSPORT, and it costs $5.
Boxcar Voices, a spoken word group that regularly meets at the end., held its last show there earlier this week. They are seeking a new location, and Long said they are welcome to continue at the future home of the end.
Long said although the end. is relocating, he is “not giving up.”
“The end has been my pride and passion for the last nine years, and I truly believe that our work is just beginning,” he said. “We are just beginning to reach some of the cultures and communities that need an outlet for their voice.
“This is not a work that I can continue alone. It requires that the community comes together.”
