Bessie Morris, a Sodexo team member, died from a heart attack in her home March 7, said Director of Sodexo Gwen Burney in an email.
Morris’ funeral service will be at noon on Saturday, according to the Thomson and Son Funeral Home website.
“It is with heavy hearts that we announce the sudden passing of one of our team members, Ms. Bessie Morris,” according to a Sodexo announcement. “Ms. Bessie has graced the UNA community and Sodexo dining team with her smile and positive attitude at A&W in the Guillot University Center Food Court for the past four years.”
The Sodexo employees are like a family, said Sodexo employees Doris Wright and Melissa Nelson.
“She will definitively be missed,” Wright said. “She was a wonderful hardworking woman.”
Morris had a big impact on students, Nelson said.
“Students loved her,” Nelson said.
Morris was a familiar, cheerful face in the GUC, said senior Jovonne Baker in a Facebook post.
“I have seen Ms. Bessie every year and every time I have gone to the GUC,” Baker said. “Since I was a freshman at SOAR, I can remember her smiling face. God be with her friends and family through these hard times.”
The Sodexo staff will remember Morris fondly, said Sodexo employee Denise Seagraves.
“We’ve all got good memories of her,” Seagraves said.
Community members are welcome to pass along their condolences to the UNA dining office, according to the Sodexo announcement.
