First Friday displays thriving Shoals community
June 5, 2014
Florence’s thriving atmosphere is centered around one feature — its community. First Fridays, held the first Friday of the months March through December, is an accurate representation of how strong our community really is.
First Fridays are frequented by locals and out-of-staters alike who display local arts, crafts, music and food to festival-goers.
To capture the full First Fridays experience, keep these suggestions in mind.
OTR Shrimp Boil
Outside On The Rocks, a popular bar on the downtown strip, a shrimp boil is hosted. The buffet is piled high with shrimp, potatoes and corn, bringing a taste of the Gulf right here to Florence.
Trowbridge’s Ice Cream
Near the top of the list of Alabama’s 100 Places To Eat Before You Die, Trowbridge’s Orange Pineapple ice cream is a perfect follow-up to the seafood you just devoured. This old-time soda pop shop is beaming with character and offers treats from chicken salad sandwiches to old-fashioned milkshakes.
Musical Talents
While eating ice cream or sipping gourmet fruit tea, music is always in the air. First Fridays is a friendly stage for many local musicians to come play and have a good time.
Whether you come for the music, arts and crafts or like me, the food, First Fridays is a relaxing adventure.
