Mane Card upgraded to double as debit card
June 5, 2014
New Mane Cards will be issued this fall, only with a new twist.
Students will now be able to use their cards to make debit purchases, if they have a Listerhill Credit Union checking account. This new feature is optional and not required, said Vice President of Marketing for Listerhill Credit Union Kristen Mashburn.
Having a Mane Card and debit card in one is more convenient for students, she said.
“It makes sense for students if they have an account with us,” she said. “When we started thinking about this, we wanted to make things simpler for them.”
Students are not required to make a Listerhill account, but if they already have one, it can be linked, she said.
Mane Cards serve several purposes on campus. They serve as keys for students to get into the residence halls, check out books at the library and rent recreational gear from the Outdoor Adventure Center.
Students can also gain free access to the Student Recreation Center for a quick workout and attend athletic events, such as football and basketball games.
However, Mane Cards are most commonly used to make purchases on campus at dining locations including the Guillot University Center Food Court, Towers Dining Hall on the ground level of Rice Hall, and at Chick-fil-A, Starbucks and Frostbite in The Commons.
“There is a $135 automatic balance for dining dollars when a student is enrolled as a full-time, on-campus student,” said Mane Card and Debit Card System Manager Jennifer Irons. “That is included in the student’s fees and those dining dollars roll over from the fall semester to the spring.”
Students taking less than 12 hours can still receive the new Mane Card. Aside from the debit card aspect, the Mane Card also can be used for Lion Loot, Irons said.
“While dining dollars can only be used at Sodexo outlets, Lion Loot can be used anywhere on campus,” she said.
Students or their parents can add money to the card by going to manestop.una.edu, she said.
Irons also said students can report a card that is stolen and have it canceled immediately by visiting the website. The card’s funds will then be transferred to a new card.
The Mane Card office is located beside Frostbite in The Commons.
