Valentine’s Day 2014 do-it-yourself gift ideas

Valentine’s Day Burlap Gift Bags

  1. Place your burlap gift bags on a flat surface and slide a piece of paper inside the bag to prevent any paint from bleeding through.
  2. Tape your heart stencil to the bag and use your brush or sponge to carefully paint in the heart. Add glitter, if desired.
  3. Let dry completely before filling with candy or other Valentine’s Day goodies.

Valentine’s Day Sharpie Mugs

  1. Buy your Sharpies in whatever color you would like, but make sure they are oil-based paint Sharpies instead of regular Sharpies. They can be a little pricey (I paid around $4 for one pen), but they adhere well to the coffee mug. Buy a cheap coffee mug from the dollar store or Wal-Mart in whatever color you would like.
  2. Clean the coffee mug with an alcohol wipe before starting to remove any streaks or marks.
  3. Depending on what you want to draw on your coffee mug, you can either trace the design or freehand it. Once you have finished drawing on the mug, let it sit for at least 24 hours before baking.
  4. Place your coffee mug in a cool oven and set the temperature for 425 degrees Fahrenheit. Once your oven has reached 425 degrees, start a timer for 30 minutes.
  5. After 30 minutes have passed, turn off your oven and let the mug sit inside until the oven is cool again. This is important, because you don’t want the glass to crack after being subjected to abrupt changes in temperature.
  6. Once cooled, wash the coffee mug thoroughly with soap and warm water.
  7. Fill the mug with bags of your loved one’s favorite tea, their favorite coffee or pieces of candy and surprise them with a sweet homemade gift!
