A Warm Welcome

I used to see some students wearing purple shirts and talking to people while walking around on campus. I didn’t know they are called the LaGrange Society until this week.

The members in LaGrange Society help people who are considering enrolling at UNA. They usually show the campus to people who come here for visits. At the same time, LaGrange Society members like to answer questions from anyone who is curious about UNA or what it is like to be a student here. LaGrange Society members try their hardest to help people choose to come here for college.

Elli Mitchell is one of the members in the LaGrange Society. This is her first year in the organization. Elli is a sophomore at UNA and the reason she joined the LaGrange Society is because she wants to bring more people to UNA.

Julie Yates Taylor, the associate director of admissions, said the people who join LaGrange Society usually do tours when people are visiting UNA. In addition, Taylor will send some LaGrange Society members to be volunteers when UNA is holding football games and commencement.

LaGrange Society members said they feel happy to introduce people to the campus. Normally, they said people don’t know UNA has two lions. As an international student, I still can remember how surprised I was when a LaGrange Society member told me that UNA owns two real lions.

Also, LaGrange Society members will be ushers when UNA hosts commencements or other activities. After spending time on a tour, I was surprised by the high passion they have when they are doing this job. I look up to them because they have to give their time to help people tour campus.

Normally, people don’t want to sacrifice their personal time to do this. But the LaGrange Society members have different opinions about this. Indeed, they make a great contribution to help people on our campus. I am proud that my university has such a nice organization on campus.
