December 5, 2013
Christmas break is just around the corner, which — for some of us — means the first time we get to relax since the semester began. Luckily, Netflix has provided a vast array of holiday movies to feed our Christmas obsessions.
Nightmare Before Christmas
“Nightmare Before Christmas” tells the story of how Jack Skellington, the Pumpkin King of Halloween Town, finds himself in a marvelous Christmas town and decides to bring the wonders of Christmas to his hometown. The people of Halloween Town don’t quite get the meaning of Christmas and Jack’s plans quickly unravel. Luckily, Sally the rag doll is there to pick up the pieces.
The Polar Express
On the night of Christmas Eve, a young boy awakes to the sound of screeching wheels on a train headed to the North Pole. Along the journey, the boy discovers the miracles in those who believe in the power of Christmas.
Jack Frost
Jack Frost, a father and lead singer in a blues band, dies in a car wreck right after promising to take his family on a Christmas trip to the mountains. Though his son falls into a deep depression following the accident, a year later Frost returns reincarnated as a snowman, through the help of a magical harmonica. Even though Frost enjoys spending time with his son, what will happen when warmer temperatures come?
Love Actually
“Love Actually” is a British romantic comedy centered around Christmastime in London. The film dives into the lives of several people on many walks of life. Each person is at a different milestone in their love life — whether it is falling in or out of love or dealing with mourning of a love lost.
Nutcracker: The Motion Picture
The Pacific Northwest Ballet arranges a reprisal of the original nutcracker fairytale. As all but Clara falls to bed and her toys come to life, you will find the plot of this version to be considerably darker than its real-life counterpart.
