4 UNA intramural champions crowned
November 21, 2013
The intramural flag football season ended with four championship games on Wednesday, Nov. 13.
The champions were the Regime, Alpha Gam 1, Los Chuparcabras Turquesa and BCM Tres.
Regime had to win two games in one day to win the men’s competitive championship. They defeated M.O.B 27-20 to advance to the championship game against the BCM.
“The hardest part about winning would have to be having to play two games almost back to back against two very talented teams, said Regime Captain Darrell Dye.
Regime defeated the BCM 40-18 in the championship game.
“It feels good to win the championship,” Dye said. “Our goal from the beginning was to go undefeated and win it all so it felt rewarding to accomplish that goal.”
Dye knew that the team had a chance to win the game, he said.
“We knew early on we had a really talented team and if we played like we should that we could win it all,” Dye said.
Regime was undefeated throughout the season.
Alpha Gam 1 defeated BCM 5 in the women’s recreational flag football championship 18-0.
Alpha Gam 1 captain Mariah Horton was proud of her team’s willingness to work together and strategize, she said.
“The hardest part of winning was getting all the players on the same game plan,” Horton said. “It is such an amazing feeling to win the championship because we played so hard each and every game.”
Los Chuparcabras Turquesa defeated Alpha Tau Omega 1 41-14 to win the men’s recreational flag football championship.
Senior Chris Bouffard of Los Chuparcabras Turquesa was happy with the increased participation this season, he said.
“It felt better this year winning the championship than (in years past),” Bouffard said. “There were more teams to play against which means more competition.”
BCM Tres defeated CSC Co-Rec 27-20 with a second-half comeback in the co-recreational flag football championships.
“We were down 20 in the first half to CSC, but after the first goal line stand we had I felt like we were going to come back and win,” said BCM captain Caleb Zills.
The girls were the most important part of the BCM’s success, he said.
“I did believe we had a really good chance to win it all because we had athletic girls,” Zills said.
