GUC evacuated after fire alarm malfunctions
October 9, 2013
The GUC was evacuated at approximately 2:28 p.m. on Wednesday afternoon, after a fire alarm was set off inside the building.
Campus police evacuated students, administrators and staff members from the building and cleared the GUC for re-entry at approximately 2:45 p.m. The local fire department checked the building for any signs of fire or smoke before readmitting students and staff, campus police said.
“It’s just a malfunction in the alarm system,” said UNA Police chief Bob Pastula. “It could potentially be because of flooding that happened in the GUC yesterday.”
Part of the GUC was flooded earlier this week due to a leak from the pipe in the set-preparation area on the second floor of the building, Pastula said.
