Therapy dogs bring comfort to campus

Freshman Forum brought some much-needed relaxation to campus with three shelter dogs for students to unwind with.

The dogs were borrowed from the Florence-Lauderdale Animal Services. Available dogs were Mattias and Mortimer, two Labrador mixes; Claire, a terrier-American Staffordshire mix; and Smiley, an Australian Shepard mix.

Freshman Forum member Grace Anthony was given the idea by her own passion for mental health awareness.

“I’m a big proponent for mental health awareness, and I know how much dogs can help your mental health, because I have six dogs at home,” said Anthony.

The main goal of the event was to help students wind down and decompress during the midterm season. The dogs are all available to adopt as well.

“[The turnout] was good,” Anthony said. “A lot of people were seeming to enjoy it.”
