Professor ends political campaign

Department of Communications Chair Butler Cain has officially dropped out of his political campaign.

Cain was originally aiming to run for Alabama’s 5th Congressional District seat in the U.S. House of Representatives on the Democratic ticket this year.

His campaign was unable to raise the necessary funds required for qualification in the election, according to Cain’s recent podcast entry on his campaign website.

“Running for (the) U.S. House is the most expensive race on the Democratic ticket,” he said. “Despite a fantastic amount of support from friends, family and a lot of new friends on Facebook and Twitter, I just couldn’t get across that financial finish line in time.”

All individuals who donated to the campaign will receive refunds, Cain said.

“It has been such a privilege to talk with large groups, small groups and individuals about some of the desires I have for change here in my home state,” he said. “I’ve had such wonderful experiences during my time on the campaign trail.”
