A grant from Governor Kay Ivey is going to help complete a Pine Street improvement project worth nearly $1 million, according to a release from Florence Mayor Andrew Betterton.
The Alabama Department of Transportation is administering a $762,000 grant to the city of Florence and UNA. The total cost of the project is $952,510.
The project is expected to include new lighting fixtures, sidewalks, ramps and landings along Pine Street, between its intersection with Irvine Street—next to Norton Auditorium—and Cumberland Street.
The Northwest Alabama Council of Local Governments will execute the grant locally in partnership with UNA and Florence.
The project will be taking place nearby several other major construction projects being done by UNA.
Bank Independent Stadium is on track for completion next year. The stadium is planned to be ready for use for UNA’s first home football game of the 2026-2027 season, according to university spokesperson Michelle Eubanks.
The construction of the stadium reached a major milestone in August, as crews topped out the stadium by placing its final beam.
