SGA candidates discuss campaigns at ‘Meat the Candidates’

by News Editor Anna Beahm

Student Government Association officer candidates answered questions over barbecue and banana pudding Feb. 17 in the Guillot University Center banquet hall.

Each candidate answered both questions pointed directly, at themselves and their individual goals and the positions they were running for.

Jose Figueroa-Cifuentes and Sarah Green are running for president of SGA. Hugo Dante and Tyler Delano are running for vice president of Senate. Nicholas Smith and Austin Bullock are running for vice president of UPC. Jessica McAlister, Dayton Tenney and Whitney Pacil are running for secretary.

Miss UNA 2016 Jocelyn Barnes, Associate Vice President for Student Affairs and Title IX Coordinator Tammy Jacques and Chief of Police Kevin Gillilan also spoke at the event.

“SGA has done many great things for this campus, things most students might not know about,” Jacques said.

She then listed many things SGA has supported, funded and lobbied for in Shared Governance.

She said she encourages students to get involved and take pride in SGA.

Gillilan shared some recent safety developments on campus.

He said the police department is looking into a trial run for a small device students can attach in their keychain or backpack that signals the police when the student is in danger.
