Meet Your Homecoming Court

Below, we ask your Homecoming Court a few questions to get to know them. Be sure to vote for your king and queen here.

Cullen Akin

Why would you like to be homecoming king?

I would like to be homecoming king because I believe it will be the best way to cap off my senior year.

What is something we might not know about you?

I would think it would be that I am actually the youngest out of four kids in my family. Many people are shocked by this and think and I am the only child.

What is the craziest thing to happen to you?

I actually haven’t had anything crazy happen to me. My life has been pretty boring.

If you were a pizza, what would you be?

I would be a Margarita pizza only because that is by far my favorite pizza.

Amanda Areostatico

Why would you like to be homecoming queen?

It was an honor to be even nominated! It’s weird to think I have a one-in-five chance to be royalty. To be UNA’s homecoming queen would be a huge honor! I love my UNA! Plus I’ve always wanted to be a princess.

What is something we might not know about you?

My last name, Areostatico, means “hot air balloon” in Italian. I’m full of hot air, go figure!

What is the craziest thing to happen to you?

My life isn’t too crazy. Though, if I had to choose the craziest thing that happened to me, it would probably be the time I found $50 on the train bridge. Freshman year, me and a group of friends decided to pull an all-nighter. We played hide-n-seek on campus, tried to find the perfect spot to watch the sunrise and I used the $50 to buy everyone McDonalds to end our adventure. Pretty crazy, right?

If you were a pizza, what would you be?

I would be a New York-style pizza with extra cheese. “New York-style” because I moved from Long Island, New York, to Huntsville, Alabama, when I was six. “Extra cheese” because I love to use puns and I’m a hopeless romantic.

Brooke Chamblee

Why would you like to be homecoming queen?

It would be an honor to be selected as UNA’s 2015 homecoming queen because it is a reminder to me to always be humble, kind and compassionate to all you meet. You may never know the impact you can leave on someone. Above everything I pray that I live and have been living my life worthy to the calling which has been placed on it. May God be glorified in all I do.

What is something we might not know about you?

I think an interesting part about my life is that I have a fraternal twin brother. We are polar opposites in so many ways, yet we also share plenty of similarities. I also get to play the “But I’m the youngest” card every once in a while — never mind that it’s only by eight minutes!

What is the craziest thing to happen to you?

One of the craziest things that has ever happened to me would probably be when a bird pooped on me right after I heard the lions roar for the very first time. I still had a class to go to and didn’t have time to change.

If you were a pizza, what would you be?

If I were to be any kind of pizza it would definitely be a deep dish veggie pizza. That’s because there may be some things about me some do not like — like mushrooms — but there are also things about me some may actually like — like the abundance of cheese and pizza sauce. Also because I might be a bit doughy compared to other pizza choices.

Jose Figueroa-Cifuentes

Why would you like to be homecoming king?

Who wouldn’t like to be homecoming king? It’s an honor to even be on court. I have always told many individuals that this is the university to come to, this is the university that has changed my life for the better and this is the university that is motivated and deviated to the students. Now to have a one-in-five chance to be homecoming king…. It’s a ultimately on that unwritten bucket list.

What is something we might not know about you?

I am a first generation college student. No one in my family had ever graduated from high school nor attended college in the U.S. My freshman year, I wasn’t really involved much so people didn’t really know me. After my freshman year was over, I’ve had to work up in very position I have made dealing with the death of my older brother. Even with that event that impacted my life so much, I stand here today as a very busy student who loves getting involved and motivating others to not quit anything. I tend to talk to random students I don’t know and have great conversations with them. GUC is the best place to do that.

What is the craziest thing to happen to you?

The craziest thing that has happened to me is having the opportunity to be in the new admission video for UNA and later know it was going to be a commercial aired on TV and an ad for YouTube.

If you were a pizza, what would you be?

They already have pineapple so I would say a tropical mango pizza. I chose this because it somewhat describes me. Many individuals would be somewhat confused about it and start talking about the flavor but why judge first when you haven’t given it a shot.

Lauren Hulsey

Why would you like to be homecoming queen?

I would like to be homecoming queen because I would love to have the opportunity to represent the student body and this university. It’s a huge honor in general to even be considered for the nomination and to have a chance to serve on the court. I’m just really excited and honored that I could even potentially get to represent an institution that means so much to me and has for four years now!

What is something we might not know about you?

Something interesting about me that most people don’t know would have to be that I was on the juggling team growing up. I don’t tell a lot of people because I’m actually terrible at juggling now.

What is the craziest thing to happen to you?

I think the craziest thing that I can remember happening to me, happened this summer at Summer Beach Project. I was working at Burger King in Panama City Beach and had french fries thrown at me through the drive-through window. I was literally in shock for like ten solid minutes. Moral of the story — be especially nice to drive-through workers and make do with cold fries.

If you were a pizza, what would you be?

If I could be any type of pizza I would definitely be a dessert pizza. Anything with chocolate, and if we’re getting really specific, s’mores pizza from Pie Factory. I pretty much live for dessert and would pick dessert foods over real food any day of the week. Life’s too short, always eat dessert!

Elli Mitchell

Why would you like to be homecoming queen?

I think it would be such a honor to be the homecoming queen because I would get to represent the best university and my home of four years. I want local students to know how great of a school UNA is and that they do not have to go off to a big school to get an awesome college experience. I have had the most amazing college experience here in my home town!

What is something we might not know about you?

My major is elementary education but my dream job would be to work in the office of administration of UNA one day as the head of administration!

What is the craziest thing to happen to you?

The craziest thing that has happened to me was last year on spring break when I decided to go on the alternative breaks trip to Desab, Haiti. When I got home I knew something had bitten me but did not know what it was. A few long days later, I found myself in ECM hospital because a poisonous spider had bitten me and given me strep infection in my arm.

If you were a pizza, what would you be?

If i could be any pizza I would definitely be basic cheese and pepperoni because I am a very basic and simple girl that does not really do trends and just sticks to what I have always liked.

Maurice Mull

Why would you like to be homecoming king?

I would say being homecoming king is a huge honor that the student body bestows on an individual. It gives me another opportunity to represent my hometown in a positive light as well. I love this university about as much as I love my family.

What is something we might not know about you?

An interesting fact about me is that I used to compete in Forestry competition with the Tanner FFA Chapter.

What is the craziest thing to happen to you?

I drove my car to school, forgot about it and rode the bus home.

If you were a pizza, what would you be?

Barbecue Chicken Pizza with banana peppers and extra cheese.

Seth Taylor

Why would you like to be homecoming king?

I would like to be homecoming king because I think it would be a great way to finish out my time at UNA. It has been an awesome four and a half years and I couldn’t think of a better way to finish it.

What is something we might not know about you?

Something the student body might not know about me is that I tried to play every sport in the book but failed miserably at all of them except for swimming, which I ended up doing for 10 years and am currently a coach for Florence High School varsity team.

What is the craziest thing to happen to you?

The craziest thing that has ever happened to me was when I studied abroad in China, me and some friends went to an alley in Beijing where they sold weird foods and we ate fried scorpion. It was pretty good and tasted like tortilla chips.

If you were a pizza, what would you be?

If I were a pizza, I would be a chicken, bacon, and ranch pizza from pie factory because that’s my favorite pizza.

Drake Vaccaro

Why would you like to be homecoming king?

I would like to be homecoming king because it would be a great honor and I think represent UNA to my best ability.

What is something we might not know about you?

I broke my collarbone when I was born.

What is the craziest thing to happen to you?

Nothing crazy has ever happened to me. I need to be more adventurous apparently.

If you were a pizza, what would you be?

If I were a pizza I would be a Supreme Pizza not only because I’m supreme, but I offer things that everyone likes.

Rachel Wammack

Why would you like to be homecoming queen?

I would like to be homecoming queen because UNA is homecookin’ to me. Our students are the finest, funniest, most talented batch of smart cookies, and I’m proud to be one of them!

What is something we might not know about you?

I’m a “beginner’ chef. Like ramen noodles is about the height of my skill. It’s sad. But, I’m thinking about taking “basic baking” next semester.

What is the craziest thing to happen to you?

On my way home from LA this summer, I sat next to Beyonce’s manager… She was going to Hunstville to pick up her daughter from space camp!

If you were a pizza, what would you be?

If I were a pizza, I’d be pepperoni thick crust.
