Lions rout Blazers to remain undefeated

The UNA Lions picked up a 34-12 conference victory on the road against Valdosta State University, improving to 4-0 on the season.

With the victory, UNA head coach Bobby Wallace becomes the winningest coach in school history, totaling 110 wins to surpass Hal Self’s record.

“I wasn’t even thinking about it (after the game),” Wallace said. “It’s the first time it has crossed my mind. Now that it has dawned on me, it is a great honor.”

The Lions had another tremendous offensive performance, as they totaled 523 yards and scored on four of its first five possessions.

UNA running back Lamonte Thompson finished with 114 yards on 23 carries for his fourth straight game with over 100 yards rushing. Quarterback Luke Wingo went 21 for 27 passing and threw for 254 yards.

“Our guys are working hard,” said UNA offensive coordinator Cody Gross. “Our guys just kept making plays. Our offensive line did a super job. We just have to keep plugging because it won’t get any easier.”

The Lions will digress from Gulf South Conference play next week,as they will travel to Western Oregon University Oct. 10.
