UPC approves 2014-15 budget

The University Program Council unanimously approved the 2014-15 budget during its Sept. 29 meeting.

The $176,264-budget looks similar to last year’s and can be viewed on SGA’s website.

The largest line item in the budget is the Live Acts Committee’s $100,000 allocation. This money pays for the annual spring concert and other events including the upcoming appearance of comedian Pete Davidson Nov. 5.

Delegate Alex Hughes said he supports the approval of budget.

“I think that it is great that we have more money for students, and Treasurer [Adam] McCollum has done a great job of distributing the money fairly,” Hughes said.

Treasurer McCollum was not present for the vote, but had made adjustments to the proposed budget based on the previous week’s discussion.

After the passing of the budget, SGA Adviser Tyler Thompson encouraged the delegates to spend the money invested in them by students wisely.

“Think about the long term,” Thompson said.

Delegate Green Davidson said he was encouraged by Thompson’s comments.

“It is a perfect example of what we are doing,” said Davidson.
