Delmar named university’s biggest fan

Odds are likely one has seen him rambling around town clad in purple and gold. Whether it is at football games or hanging out at First Fridays, he cheers, he sings and he dances – he is simply Delmar.

“If there is a student event, Delmar is there,” said UNA men’s basketball coach Bobby Champagne. “He’s the official mascot of North Alabama because he’s everywhere.”

Delmar tries to make it to every home sporting event and will sit in the student section to cheer on the Lions.

“It’s great to have such a loyal fan,” Champagne said. “I don’t think he missed a single home game.”

The players really enjoy having Delmar at the games showing his team spirit, he said.

Before the games Delmar shows off his pipes by singing the National Anthem and participates in the halftime games for fans. And when “Kung Fu Fighting” plays over the speakers, Delmar will show off his karate moves to the crowd, Champagne said.

“He just really loves everyone,” said junior Rebecca Logsdon. “I love his passion.”
