“Think Pink” was the theme at Flowers Hall Saturday night when the lady Lions took on the Shorter University Hawks.

The Lions, wearing pink Nike shoes to honor cancer survivors and to raise cancer awareness, dominated Shorter, beating the Hawks 66-53.

In the first half, both teams lacked in execution and defense, said head coach Missy Tiber.

“At the start of the game I wasn’t very happy with our energy on defense and just our execution,” Tiber said.

Despite the sloppy play, the Lions still managed to put up points. UNA’s Corinne White was the highlight of the first half. White hit six of her 10 shots from the field, including four from behind the arc. White posted 16 points in the first half.

At halftime the Lions led the Hawks 37-28.

The Lions did not step off the gas in the second half. Tiber continued to run her fast-paced offense and pushed the ball down the court. Shorter could not come back.

White continued her three-point clinic in the second half, knocking down both of her attempts.

Coming into Saturday’s game White averaged 5.3 points per game off the bench. Her season high was 13 points. White finished the game with a season-high 22 points to lead all scorers and played a season-high 27 minutes.

Two other players finished in double-digits for the Lions. Jennifer Towne finished with 14 points and Lauren Faris finished with 13.

The Lions 66-53 victory over Shorter was their third in a row after a three-game losing streak in January. Those three losses have been a rejuvenator for the Lions, said White.

“After Christian Brothers and we had that loss there, it was kind of an eye-opener for us,” White said. “Ever since that game everyone has really come together and had a positive mindset.”

The women’s next game will be Feb. 4 at home against Union University.
