Lions drop the ball to bulldogs 67-58

The UNA women’s basketball team ended their three-game winning streak Tuesday, Feb. 4, after the Union Bulldogs defeated the Lions 67-58.

In a tightly contested game, UNA (11-7, 6-6) was able to tie the game three different times in the second half but was never able to take lead. Junior guard Delisa Madry had 12 points while hitting three three-pointers and grabbing 6 rebounds.

“We had a chance to pull away but we just kept making mistakes,” Madry said.

After struggling to score in the first half UNA was able to get the ball in the post more in the second half. They scored 36 points compared to 22 in the first half. The second half offensive surge, however, was not enough to give them the win.

Head coach Missy Tiber said she thought her team responded very well in the second half.

“In the second half we were more aggressive,” Tiber said. “We just were not hitting in the first half and were shooting too many outside shots.”

Sophomore guard Jennifer Towne lead UNA scorers with 18 points. Senior forward Nichelle Fillmore pitched in 11 points and 8 rebounds.

“They are too good for us to make inexcusable plays,” Tiber said. “When you play a great team like (Union) you can’t mess up like that.”

“We just have to stick to our plan like always and bounce back,” Madry said.

The Lions will travel to play Lee University on Thursday at 5 p.m.
