Students won’t be able to ‘eat mor chikin’ (at least until mid-February)

Students will have to wait at least a half-month longer for their Chick-fil-A and Starbucks fix, as university officials have reported a new tentative opening date for The Commons.

Instead of opening Feb. 1 as announced at the December Board of Trustees meeting, a more reasonable expectation is Monday, Feb. 17, said Lee Handley, the university’s project manager for the building’s construction.

“Feb. 17 is the anticipated date opening,” he said. “That is, of course, barring any more bad weather. We’re up against the wall to make it as planned already.”

Earlier university reports confirmed the opening of the building to be Feb. 1, with departments and offices moving in at the end of January. An employee in the Office of Student Financial Services said Friday morning their office is expecting to move into the building toward the end of February.
