Council to discuss country club rezoning tonight

The Florence City Council members vote unanimously to authorize Mayor Mickey Haddock to start negotiations with UNA for the purchase of the Florence Golf and Country Club property. Tonight the council is set to begin discussion of the rezoning of the property.

The rezoning of the Florence Golf and Country Club property for UNA will be discussed tonight at the Florence City Council meeting, according to the meeting agenda.

The ordinance, sponsored by City Planning Department Director Melissa Bailey, will move the property from a F-A-R (Flooding, Agricultural and Recreational) district to an R-B (Residential Business) district, as requested by the City of Florence, according to tonight’s proposed agenda for the meeting.

The council unanimously voted at their Jan. 8 meeting to approve a resolution authorizing Mayor Mickey Haddock to negotiate with UNA officials toward the purchase of the Golf and Country Club to house the university’s new integrative health program.

The integrative health program was approved by the Alabama Commission for Higher Education last fall and will begin this fall.
