First case of flu discovered on UNA campus

The first verified case of influenza was discovered on campus today.

The student who was diagnosed was not an on-campus resident, said Cindy Wood, executive director of the UNA Health and Wellness Center.

“It’s not too late to get a flu shot,” Wood said. “While it still takes two weeks to get full immunity, you still get some (immunity).”

The Health and Wellness Center sees a gradual increase of flu cases on campus after the first positive case has been found, Wood said.

Wood said for students to remain vigilant of their respiratory etiquette and others around them.
