Stevens Hall evacuated due to possible contamination by suspicious substance

A suspicious substance was found on the fifth floor of Stevens Hall in the early afternoon on Thursday, March 3. The building was evacuated at 1:45 p.m. and the police began an investigation.

The white, powdery chemical was found in a letter addressed to a faculty member. One staff member and two faculty members were quarantined for decontamination. All three are safe and have been released. The substance has been sent to a forensics lab for analysis.

The authorities have a lead as to who was responsible for sending the letter, but they are not releasing the information at this time.

The building was closed for the remainder of the day, but classes were scheduled to begin at their regular times on Friday, March 4 starting at 8 a.m.
