Honors College hosts drive for campus food pantry

Junior Grant Gunn helps stock the Feeding the Pride Food Pantry. The pantry helps students in need of food assistance.

The UNA Honors College will host a food drive for the university food pantry, Feeding the Pride, Feb. 19-23.

They will have a table in the Guilloit University Center Atrium from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. each day.

Sophomore Maria Kerstiens said the college is accepting different food items for the pantry.

There will be basic stuff like canned vegetables and fruit, ramen, mashed potatoes and cereal she said. The college is also accepting baby food, gluten free foods and gift cards for grocery stores or fast food.

Kerstiens said the food drive is a way to give back to the school community.

“Feeding the Pride is a great service to UNA, but many students don’t know about it,” she said. “It is located in the Student Engagement center, and it’s open to any UNA student in need of food. When you donate items, you are supporting fellow students at our beloved UNA. We should take care of each other.”

The food pantry is open Monday-Friday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Students must have their Mane Card in order to receive assistance, according to their website.
