Sign-ups for Alternative Break rapidly approach

Springtime is fast approaching, along with opportunities for students to give up some of their spring break to help those in need. Students interested in making a difference may want to check out the Alternative Break program, with sign-ups ending on Jan. 31.

“(This year) we are sending two groups of approximately 15 students to New Orleans and Atlanta,” said Coordinator of Leadership & Volunteerism, Student Engagement Bethany Oliver, who will be leading the Atlanta group.

The Atlanta group will be working with different Human Trafficking Awareness Organizations, The New Orleans group will be helping in the reconstruction effort and will also focus on child education, Oliver said.

The Alternative Break Board is also offering one free trip to a student who applies by Jan. 29th.  Students may apply on paper or by visiting the Alternative Break page on OrgSync, Oliver said.

“(Choosing to participate in Alternative Break) sounds like a great way for UNA students to get involved,” said Whitney Johnson, a senior.
