A letter from the President

Whitney Veazey

As we begin the 2023-2024 school year, I would like to welcome you to the beautiful UNA campus on behalf of the Student Government Association (SGA). My name is Amber Sandvig, and I serve as your 2023-2024 Student Government Association President.

I am a Senior from Spring Hill, Tenn., majoring in Professional Management with a concentration in Innovation and Entrepreneurship. As your SGA President, I enjoy hearing from my fellow students! If you have ideas, questions or comments or concerns, please let me know. My email is [email protected] or [email protected]. We highly encourage students to attend the Senate meetings and provide feedback. Senate meetings will be held every Thursday at 3:30 p.m. in the SGA Chambers located in the Guillot University Center 163B.

As you begin your transition into college life, you will find that the university has so much to offer outside of the classroom. UNA is an amazing place to begin (or continue!) your college career. SGA is the official student representation to university administration and serves with three main intentions backed by our core values.

First, the SGA serves as the voice and governing body of students. We provide services and make recommendations to the university administration. SGA also exists to protect and promote the educational, cultural, economic, and social advancement of all UNA students. Lastly, the SGA provides a forum in which student interests and needs are both expressed and valued.

There are three branches of SGA which work cohesively to bring different services to UNA students. These branches are: Senate (the legislative branch), Student Court (the judicial branch), and Freshman Forum.

Last year, the Student Government Association passed more than 24 pieces of crucial legislation, including a bill that allocated funding for two charter buses that took international students to international food markets in Huntsville during the fall and spring semester.

SGA also allocated over $125,000 to various student organizations including diversity, equity, and inclusion programs, social programs, academic-related programs, and travel-related programs.

The 2022-2023 SGA Executive Council and Senate also saw an amazing turnout for the Higher Education Day Rally, where members of the Student Government Association advocated for UNA to receive increased state funding as part of Project 208.
