The Ritz Theatre, located in Sheffield, has announced dates and information surrounding several of their 2024 performances and auditions.

The theater was originally built in 1927 as a silent movie house, but it eventually went out of business in 1951. In 1985, the building was bought by the Tennessee Valley Arts Association and restored to its original 1930s appearance. The theatre now houses the Center Stage Community Theater, which hosts several musicals and movies every year.

Starting on Feb 16, The Color Purple (1985) will be playing in the theater starting at 7 p.m. with tickets being $10 a piece. This decades-old movie has gained popularity again as a remake released in theaters this past December.

The theater will then hold auditions for their spring musical, “Alice and Wonderland,” on Feb 17 from two to five p.m. This musical was adapted by Anne Coulter Martens from the original Lewis Carol story. The play calls for many different roles played by many different ages. Sign-ups for auditions will take place at the door on Feb 17. The performance of this musical will be April 16-19 from nine to eleven a.m. each day.

From Feb 23 to March 2, COMPANY: A Musical Comedy will show at Ritz Theatre. This show was originally written by Stephen Sodeheim and George Furth. Show times vary per day, and tickets range from $15 to $20. Tickets are available on the Ritz Theatre website, www.tennesseevalleyarts.org/theatre.

On March 8, The Ritz Studio will host an event titled the Share Your Voice Showcase from seven to nine p.m. This show will include multiple performances from artists from all over the Shoals and beyond. Performances will include songs, poetry, prose, stand up comedy and many other performance arts. For those who are interested in performing, there is a location on their website to submit an application. Audience members must be 18 years or older to attend. Tickets are $10, and they will be available on their website. Concessions will also be available.

SummerStock at the Ritz is the musical Cabaret. This musical was originally written by John Kander and Fred Ebb. Auditions for this musical will take place March 23, 24, and 29 from ten a.m. to twelve p.m., and from two p.m. to five p.m. Callbacks will then be held on March 30 from one p.m. to five p.m. Performances for this musical will take place on July 12, 13, 19, 20, and 21, with times to be announced. The performance and audition for this production will take place in Norton Auditorium due to scheduled renovations to the Ritz Theatre.

For those interested in any of these auditions or performances, additional information is on the Ritz Theatre website. More movie showings and possible productions will also be announced there or on their Facebook page.
