It was all UNA against the Hornets as they beat Alabama State 3-0 in a historic Thursday night game.
Walker became the second Lion head coach to win 100 games throughout the soccer program’s history, and the fans were excited for him.
Walker said he “was more focused on the game itself rather than making it about [himself], but obviously it was a special moment.”
It was a special moment as the Lady Lions put on a shutout, led by Alice Bussey’s first goal of the game in the thirteenth minute, which put the game at halftime 1-0.
Walker said Bussey is “coming back off a big injury last year, and she is an important piece to the team.”
The Hornets’ defense was formidable, but could not withstand the Lions’ attack in the second half. Lilly Ford got a goal in the seventy-minute mark, and Meg Welsh got a goal in the eighty-first minute, leading to a final score of 3-0 once the final whistle blew.
Alabama State had ten saves on goals compared to UNA’s two, so Alabama State’s goalie Corrine Brookes had a busy night trying to defend against the Lions’ roaring offense.
This win will make the Lady Lions 3-1-2 on the season and would mark Walker’s 100th career win with UNA.
The Lady Lions have back-to-back away games on Sunday, September 7th, against Chattanooga at 5 pm, and will also face Tennessee Tech on Sunday, September 14th, at 6 pm.
