UNA Soccer is getting a new member added to its coaching staff.
Kevin Schenk is slated to replace former assistant coach Tara McQueen, who left the Lions after three seasons to join the coaching staff at Auburn University.
“Kevin is an outstanding addition to our program,” UNA Head Coach Chris Walker said. “He brings a great understanding of the game, a strong work ethic and a genuine passion for developing student-athletes. We’re excited to welcome him to Florence and to the North Alabama family, and I know he will make a tremendous impact on our players both on and off the pitch.”
Schenk played goalkeeper at the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh before completing his bachelor’s degree at Illinois State and earning a master’s degree in sports management from Dubuque.
He began his college coaching career in 2019 as a graduate assistant at the University of Dubuque, Iowa. Since then, his duties involved working with goalkeepers. That season, Dubuque finished 12-5-6 with eight shutouts and advanced to the conference semifinals.
Schenk later worked as the goalkeeper coach at the University of Indiana, where he helped develop freshman Jamie Gerstenberg, a Big-Ten All-Freshman Team selection who recorded nine shutouts and a 0.49 goals-against average.
He also spent time at Marshall University in 2023 before joining Gonzaga University as an assistant coach in 2024. During his two seasons with the Bulldogs, the team earned 11 shutouts and 18 wins.
“I’m incredibly excited to be joining North Alabama women’s soccer,” Schenk said. “I would like to thank Head Coach Chris Walker and Assistant Coach Adam Sportsman for the opportunity to join the staff. Their bold vision for the program and commitment to excellence was evident in the interview process and something I’m eager to contribute to. I’m looking forward to building relationships with the team, helping our student-athletes grow both on and off the field, and working together to continue moving the program forward.”
