North Alabama women’s golf continued a strong spring campaign with a runner-up finish at Huntsville.org Intercollegiate. Highlighted by Kerigan Klauber’s second place individual finish, she is named Golfer of the Week.
The team competed at RTJ Hampton Cove with 10 other teams, with a final score of 25-over-par, 889, seven strokes behind the Austin Peay Governors. The score fell just five strokes short of the program’s all-time record, defined in 2023 at the same course. Overall, UNA separated itself from the rest of the schools by at least 12 strokes.
A historic first round set the Lions on a firing one-under-par, 287, campaign. This was the first-ever time the program posted an under-par score, making it the lowest score in its history.
Klauber led the team by setting career-bests. The redshirt junior placed second with a +1 overall score for three rounds. Summing 217, she set the third lowest tournament score in program history, trailing Jackie Klam’s 215 and 216 recorded in 2023.
Klauber’s performance included 11 birdies and seven bogeys, the fewest bogeys in the 60-player field. Post-tournament, she was named Atlantic Sun Conference Golfer of the Week.
“This is well deserved,” Head Coach Neil Self said. “An awesome honor for a great tournament!”
Sophomore Sirichaya Chanpen posted the team’s best score round of the final day with a 73, leading to an 11-place climb at the leader board. She finished ninth overall.
The Lions rounded top-20 individual finishes with sophomore Olivia Whittle finishing 13th, junior Ava Schwartz 15th, and freshman Kiersten Riggins finishing 20th.
Women’s golf is back to action on March 16-17 at the Magnolia Collegiate in Mobile.
