UNA football’s game against Utah Tech resulted in a close match as Trailblazer running back Asa Chapman scored a final touchdown during overtime, winning the game by just a point at 34-33.
In the first quarter, quarterback Destin Wade scored a touchdown four minutes in. Putting the Lions in the lead. It didn’t last long. Three minutes later, Utah Tech scored a touchdown that earned them the lead by one point.
By the middle of the first quarter, UNA regained the lead as running back Jalyn Daniels made an 11-yard touchdown.
25 game seconds later, Utah Tech wide receiver Daniel Thomason made a touchdown and brought the score to 13-14.
Utah Tech gained an additional three points via a field goal and remained ahead of UNA as the first quarter came to a close.
The second quarter ended with only Utah Tech gaining three more points. The game remained UNA 13 and Utah State 20 until the fourth quarter.
Although the Lions started the fourth quarter down by seven points, they came back and scored back-to-back touchdowns and stole the lead from the Trailblazers.
One of which came from redshirt senior wide receiver Tanaka Scott who caught a 91-yard pass. Scott’s 136 receiving yards total during the game sets a new career high.
The Lion’s other touchdown in the fourth quarter came from Wade’s final two-yard push to the endzone.
The Lions held the 27-20 lead in the fourth quarter until the Trailblazers tied the score with only four minutes left in the quarter. With neither team scoring, the game was forced into overtime.
In overtime, Wade scored his final touchdown of the game, bringing the score 33-27. Unfortunately, the extra point was unsuccessful.
The Lions were able to hold off the Trailblazer’s first three attempts at a touchdown, but the fourth down conversion gave them momentum and allowed for a touchdown. Shortly after, Utah Tech scored with an extra point. UNA’s missed extra point allowed for the Trailblazers to seal their win.
