The Lions defeated Fisk University 75-42 during elementary day on Nov. 6.
Elementary students from local schools took over CB&S Bank Arena Thursday with over 1,500 students in attendance to cheer the Lions on. They were thrown Little Lions shirts and Culver’s plushies from the cheerleaders. They had a dance party with The Roar dance team and participated in fun-filled half-time games.
The fourth quarter proved to be most special as it led to a crowd uproar after freshman Gabby Jackson made a free throw to put the team at 67 points. Students, cheerleaders and the bench contributed to the humorous chaos in a memorable moment for everybody in attendance.
Sophomore forward Sofia Ceppellotti led the game with 16 points. Junior Cameron McNamara followed closely with 15 points, including one steal and one block. Redshirt senior Alexsandra Alvarado also had 15 points to contribute to the 33 point blowout. She now holds the team-high record for assists with six.
This win marked the first time since the 2019-2020 season that the Lions started the season 2-0. It also added to the all-time record against the Lady Bulldogs with a 7-0 all-time record.
The match started slow in the first quarter as the Lions led 14-10. It did not last long with the Lady Bulldogs failing to catch up with a 37-16 end prior to halftime. McNamara dominated with 11 of those points.
In the third quarter, the Lions moved at a comfortable place allowing the bench to score nine of their 11 points with a 48-24 end.
The undefeated Lions will host students from their previous summer camps and players from the Tennessee Valley Basketball Association on Nov. 10 at 6 p.m. as they take on rival Jacksonville State.
