Reflections of the biggest sports highlights and biggest accolades of The University of North Alabama’s Athletic Program sponsors a long history of athletic dominance and a very detailed and prestigious athletic program detailed by several championships and national title runs in football (3x in years 1993, 1994, and 1995), men’s basketball championship in the programs illustrious athletic history in The NCAA Division II Program (2x in 1979, 1991), single national title in both women’s volleyball (year 2003) and softball (year 2003).
If we can reflect upon one the most influential and substantial head coaches who made a significant impact upon the rise of UNA’s dominance in Colligate Athletics as well as the leading key component of pioneering and factoring in the program’s elevation to elite success in its very long-lived, promising, illustrious, winning, and honorable athletic program, we should always reflect upon and respect the legacy of the very iconic Head Football Coach of The University of North Alabama: Bobby Wallace.
His highly decorated, detailed, and highly touted coaching career includes these very commendable accolades: Led UNA to a significant champion dynasty football for three consecutive years (1993, 1994, 1995), pioneered and led the way for the Lion’s Football Team to much consistency in winning seasons in its historical football program history, posting strong excellence in wins from years 1988-1997 (strong and overall win-loss record of 82-36-01) and a magnificent overall record during seasons 1993-1995 (41-1) as just a couple of his remarkable accomplishments he created in his highly respectable tenure as the greatest football coach The University of North Alabama ever had.
His impact has a very amazing and standout athlete as well as a very impactful coach and mentor for his athletes leaves such reminiscing and thoughtful memories on the gridiron that always last forever in the hearts of our fans and former alumni that have ever graced the Bill Jones Complex Football Field. He was recognized as the Division II Coach of the Quarter Century (1972 – 1997) and won three Gulf South Conference Coach of the Year three times. The coaching great even was awarded the privilege to be nominated and inducted into the Division II Football Hall of Fame (2010), Alabama Sports Hall of Fame, and GSC Hall of Fame, offered the privilege to be nominated for the privilege to establish the Bank Independent Football Stadium, and served coaching tenures with Temple University (1998-2005), The University of West Alabama, and finished as the winningest football coach in Gulf South Conference Football History.
As a former multi-sport standout athlete, Wallace also made a tremendous mark in his high school athletic career while playing for Callaway High School in Jackson, Mississippi, lettering for three seasons each year in football, basketball, baseball, and track and field along with earning prep All-American honors at the Mississippi State University as a defensive back for The Mississippi State Bulldogs Football Team while completing his Bachelor of Science Degree in Physical Education.
His personality is that of a mentoring spirit to his student-athletes, a humble devotion to Christianity, and his focus to integrate faith, mending hope to his associated faculty staff and university family, treating people with deserved respect and dignity, having a very sustainable coaching philosophy, and being a very selfless mentor, leader, and beloved and trusted Christian, Coach, Friend, Trusted Family Member, and loving husband to his very special partner, his wife Sharon Wallace, and have three children: Robert, Lindsey, and Blake. They also have four grandchildren as well.
Bobby Wallace is widely considered to be the most outstanding and legendary head football at The University of North Alabama, and his legacy and excellence mark of presence at The University of North Alabama will never be forgotten with all the heart, desire, and ambition he contributed to the overall success of UNA’s athletic football program as well as his devotion as one amazing, hard-working, loving, and Christian character.
