Men’s tennis defeated Bellarmine 6-1 at home on March 9. The Lions currently hold a 8-6 overall record with a 3-0 conference record. This win was the result of consistent play in singles and doubles, resulting in their 13th-straight win over an ASUN opponent.
Juniors Alberto Atlur, Alex Despoja, Izan Orgiles and freshman Benjamin Meyers aided a vast amount to secure the overall win. With a 6-4 victory, Despoja and Meyers locked the first doubles win versus Matthew Nice and Colby Berson. Altur and Orgiles trailed the same path, securing a 6-3 win over Eli Wood and Ryan Parkins. Doubles matches concluded with a walkover win for senior Lions Lachlan Brain and sophomore Samu Dominguez.
Singles commenced with a walkover win for Whitman Davis, securing a 2-0 team advantage for the Lions. Orgiles acquired the first singles win with a 6-3, 6-2 victory over Wood, contributing to the Lions’ third team point. Meyers secured the Lions’ fourth point with a 6-1, 6-4 win over Zak Vince. Dominguez triumphed a third-flight victory over Parkins 6-0, 4-6, 6-1.
To end the afternoon, sophomore Satoru Nakajima earned the Lions’ fifth singles win with a 6-4, 7-6 (7-3) victory against Berson.
The Lions continue their season in a four-dual matchup in Jacksonville State, starting at 1 p.m. on March 13.
