UNA Writer’s Series features Jeff Sharlet

The GUC Performance Center was filled at 11:00 a.m. Thursday when Jeff Sharlet came and read from his new book, “Sweet Heaven When I Die,” as a part of the UNA Writer’s Series.

Sharlet’s new book is an exploration of differences in religious faith and its impact on American society.

“What is the common denominator?” Sharlet asked. “What is it that unites (the American people)? What do we all share? All we want to hear about is the harmony between us. I’m not interested in harmony. I’m interested in cacophony.”

The event was attended by students, faculty and community members alike.

This marks the 28th year of the UNA Writer’s Series, which is, according to Writer’s Series committee chair Pam Kingsbury, the longest running writer’s series in the state. The series will host another writer next spring.

Check next week for a more in-depth interview with Jeff Sharlet.
