The University Program Council is hosting Open Mic Night Nov. 11

from 7-11 p.m. in the GUC Loft. All students are invited to attend

and participate. There is no cost to students.

 “UPC hasn’t done an open mic night before,” Blake Clark, UPC live

acts chair, said. “We wanted to try some new events this year and

this one goes over well at other campuses across the nation.”

Clark said the event encourages people who would not usually have a

chance to perform in public to “show what they can do and perform

in an acoustic setting for the student body.”

He went on to say each participant will have a 10 to15 minute time

slot, depending on how many people sign up to participate. He said

its strictly a first-come basis and the signup will be at the door

at 6:30 p.m. the night of the show.

“No explicit material can be performed, and if anyone disobeys

those rights they will be asked to leave,” Clark said. Clark also

encourages those who do not want to participate to still come out

to the show.

“It allows students a chance to get out of their dorm rooms and

away from studying to come and just relax and hear friends and

fellow students perform,” Clark said.

UPC is a branch of the Student Government Association, and it

functions as the branch that provides events and programs for

students. Its slogan is “We bring the life to campus,” and it does

so by booking bands, hiring live acts and sponsoring free events

for students to enjoy.
