The University of North Alabama’s University Program Council hosted its first-ever “Court Street Crawl” for UNA students.
On Aug. 26, UPC hosted and sold out its first-ever Court Street Crawl event. The event started with a check-in at Colby Hall, where students could grab a punch card and get a list of five different places to visit downtown for free souvenirs and food.
UPC member and Court Street Crawl event planner, Eleanor Fitz, said, “So going into this, I was really nervous because this is my first event that I have planned while on UPC, and also it is the first time UPC has hosted an event like this, but it was super successful. We sold out in three minutes.”
This crawl featured many downtown businesses. Attendees could visit Stella and Goose for a free mini print made by a local artist. They could also Banqet Patisserie for a brown butter or cowboy cookie. Chicago Cafe joined in and offered a slice of cheese pizza. They could also visit Cafe 222 for mac and cheese. Then lastly, attendees could make a stop at Trowbridge’s for a scoop of ice cream.

When attendees finished getting their cards punched at the places downtown, they could circle back to Colby Hall for a free event-specific t-shirt.
The event catered to new students here at UNA who have not yet gotten the chance to explore downtown Florence.
“I wanted them to have an opportunity to get out and see the area, get involved in the community in a way that is really accessible,” shared Fitz. “Also, just from talking to the Downtown Florence Alliance, which was an organization that really helped me out a lot with this event, they told me they feel like sometimes UNA is very disconnected from the Florence community, so this helps give businesses downtown exposure to campus and bridge that gap.”
UPC has plans for future Court Street Crawl events.
“This is our first time putting it on, but we really want to make it a campus tradition,” said Fitz.
