UNA Student Counseling Services is offering weekly group therapy events to help give students opportunities to connect and reflect on their mental health. Each day of the week is a different group therapy event that focuses on a different aspect of student life.
On Mondays, they offer “Connect” from 3:30 p.m. to 4:15 p.m.. “Connect” is an open group setting that aims to give students a “safe, therapeutic” environment to reflect and enhance on various relationships within a student’s life. The goal is to develop skills that are needed to have positive and healthy relationships.
On Tuesdays, “I’m Fine” is held from 3 p.m. to 4:15 p.m.. “I’m Fine” is an open group that offers a “safe place” for students to openly explore the feeling of being “fine” while also dealing with other life tasks. The goal of this group is to help students build skills and know their resources to manage stress on a day-to-day basis.
On Wednesdays, they offer “Wellness Wednesday” from 3:30 p.m. to 4:15 p.m.. This is a workshop that highlights a variety of mental health and wellness topics that can change from week to week. These workshops aim to give students the opportunity to self-explore and learn tools for “maintaining balance and well-being”.
On Thursdays, Book Club is hosted. In “Book Club” from 3:30 p.m. to 4:15 p.m., students get to revisit childhood stories and have conversations about the themes and their own personal growth. Students are encouraged to find a new meaning within these stories. “Just show up and join the discussion,” said a CampusGroups post.
On the first Wednesday of every month, “Paint and Process” is also held. During “Paint and Process,” students are encouraged to talk about anything that could be on their minds while painting. Snacks are also provided for students at the event.
All of the Student Counseling events are held on the first floor of Rivers Hall. Each event is free for all students and all supplies and snacks are provided.
