The University of North Alabama men’s and women’s cross country teams had standout performances at the UNA Invitational on Sep. 5, with UNA sophomore students Brian Bett and Sandra Maiyo earning victories.
Bett led in the men’s 8000m event with a finishing time of 24:31.33, leading by 12 seconds ahead of Aaron Fynaardt from Union University. UNA had three runners place within the top 15, including sophomore Vincent Chepkwony in third place, junior Aidan Shannon in ninth and freshman Jack Gruber in 14th. Brent Lyons finished in 24th.
In the women’s 5000m event, Maiyo led and finished with a time of 17:35.01, which was 40 seconds ahead of second place, Addi Aguayo from Union University. UNA junior Camille Etheridge placed 21st and junior Savannah Williams placed 25th. Freshman Audry Becker came in 35th and sophomore Taylor Williams came in 50th.
UNA’s next meet is the Southern Showcase in Huntsville, Alabama, on Sep 12.
