In the “Ghost in the Shell” manga and anime, Major Motoko Kusanagi is a cybernetic Japanese field commander in law enforcement. However, in the 2017 American live action film, Kusanagi, besides being portrayed by Caucasian actor Scarlett Johansson, is changed to “Mira Killian.” No spoilers for those who have not seen the film, but even though it tries to tie the two versions of the character together, this did not amuse some fans.
